Obituary of Eddie Doug Denton

Eddie “Doug” Denton, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer, which he faced for the sake of his family. He was born on June 19, 1952, in Bristol, TN, to Edward Lee Denton and Betty Marie Tipton Hicks.

Doug was raised in Eastern Tennessee before moving to Louisville, KY, where he met his wife of 40 years, Julia Lynn Ott Denton. They spent 12 years in Frankfort before making Lawrenceburg their home for the past 23 years. Doug dedicated 27 years of his career to Lowes, where he enjoyed working and connecting with people. He was also a former member of the Frankfort Bass Masters and had a passion for fishing and hunting. Doug was known for his expertise in lolligaging and was a proud supporter of the University of Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Denton; daughters, Melanie Spears (Danny), Lorrie Rainwater (Brad), and Mandie Walker (Scott); his mother, Betty Hicks; sister, Tonia Lane (Larry); grandchildren, Megan, Austin, Madison, Dalton, Trevor, Jamie, Abram, and Maddox; two great-grandchildren; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, Edward Denton, and a grandson, Matthew Mowdy.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Saffell House Funeral Home. The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, January 13, 2025, at 12 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Scott Walker, Mike Nunn, Chad Harp, Austin Finch, Dalton Spears, Trevor Walker, Cody Lane, and Kyle Nunn.

Honorary pallbearers include his extended family and many friends.
