Obituary of John Edward Hale

John Edward Hale, Jr., 78, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 in Lexington, Kentucky at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Louisville, KY to the late John Edward Hale, Sr. and Norma Louis Cundiff Hale Diebold. John was widowed by his wife, Norma Louise Jones Hale after 54 years of marriage. John graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville KY in 1961 and then served his country in the Navy. He married Norma Louise Jones Hale December 1, 1967. He owned his own construction company for 25 years and then went into computer engineering. John belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lexington, KY. John was a hobby beekeeper and an avid fisherman. He loved to bake, cook and was a loyal UK basketball & football fan. John is survived by his son, John Edward Hale lll (Michele); brothers, Thomas Francis Edward Hale, Stephen Douglas Hale (Marcella), Mark Hamilton Hale ll, Louis Matthew Anderson Hale, William Edward Gerard Hale, and Donald Ray Sharp; sisters, Norma Marie Hale Young ll, and Laura Jane Hale Hooper Crawford (MIchael); nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Hale, Sr. and Norma Louis Cundiff Hale Diebold; wife, Norma Louise Jones Hale; son, Jeff Hale; brothers, Donald Bruce Aloysius Hale, Mark Hamilton Hale and John Luke Hale; sisters, Bonnie Arlene Patricia Hale Board, Mary Gail Wathen and Norma Marie Hale. A memorial service will be held on April 9th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1789 Tates Creek Road, Lexington KY. Visitation with family and friends will be held at 12:30 p.m. and service will begin at 1:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers there will be a donation box at the memorial to collect money to be donated to the Beekeeper Association for a young beekeeper to learn beekeeping and purchase a starter kit. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Saffell House Funeral Home.
