One day I was in Sam’s Club and they had blocked off the aisle I needed, and, even so, the stuff I wanted was on the top-most part of the top shelf! It was frustrating, so I texted Mary and asked her to “PLEASE, live through this challenge with me!” From then on, it was just a fun and funny experience! I didn’t care how long it took to get what I needed because I was chatting back and forth with an expert in ‘humor and looking on the bright side!’
I love and miss Mary. I miss her dry humor and all the loud colors and big patterns, and her dogs! Oh, those dogs! I miss all the interruptions in our visits by calls from adoring nieces and nephews from all over the country, and then when she hung up the phone, someone would be at the door on their way from Texas to New York and wanting to say, “hi” and deliver a little gift for the “favorite” Auntie!
The last few weeks were precious for me. Barbara let me be part of Mary’s last days and hours. Unable to do almost anything but sleep, a few times Mary turned her head and sang along (sometimes only mouthing the words) with “Jambalaya” and the chorus of “Grandma’s Feather Bed.” She called for “Barbara” (when she stepped out for a minute) and for her “momma”—she wanted to “be with [her] momma.” Heaven is a happier place now! Mary is there! And FAMILIES ARE FOREVER!
Thank you, Barbara. You were such a devoted, compassionate caregiver to “baby sis.” Mary is lucky to be in your family with you close by, and I am grateful to have you as a friend.

From the moment we met on the very first day of your move to Kentucky, you were mine and Cherokee's Aunt Mary. I loved hearing your stories and getting to know you. I will always cherish the memories of the time we spent together, in person, talking on the phone, and texting. I love you, Aunt Mary. May you rest in peace. Love Melissa

We will miss Mary, but know that she is with her husband and parents and siblings that have preceded in going to the next level of our human existence. We will always remember the warm greetings and hugs and laughs as we visited with her. She is a special lady.
