Obituary of Phoebe Carol Hunsinger

Phoebe “Carol” Allen Hunsinger, 83, of Lawrenceburg passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 24, 1939, in Lexington, Kentucky, the daughter of Charles Herman and Ancel Miriam (Aden) Allen. Carol was proud to be included in the first graduating class of Northern Kentucky State University. She and her husband lived in many places over the years but were especially fond of their 15 years in Vernon, New Jersey. 

Carol worked as an elementary school teacher at Alexandria Elementary in Alexandria, Kentucky, and as a manager at the Franklin Mineral Museum in Franklin, New Jersey. Most importantly, she loved being a mother raising her four children. After retirement, Carol and her husband moved to Lawrenceburg to be near family. In recent years Carol spent time volunteering with Anderson County Backpack Buddies and helping with Friends of the Anderson Public Library. She also attended First Christian Church. She loved gardening, hiking (later more leisurely walking), University of Kentucky basketball and reading. 

Carol is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard D. “Dick” Hunsinger; four children, Julie Mink (Dick), Dan Hunsinger (Anne), Peter Hunsinger (Dimitra Pyrialakou), and Pat Hunsinger; and five grandchildren, Jack, Molly, Shane, Olivia, and Nephele. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Sue and Pat Shugars and her brother Chuck Allen. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 10–11 a.m. at Saffell House Funeral Home with a Memorial Service immediately following. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to Anderson County Backpack Buddies, Friends of the Anderson Public Library or Bluegrass Care Navigators in honor of Carol Hunsinger.
